augzoo® Featured by CBS Austin for National Voter Registration Day

On September 16, 2025, augzoo® was featured by CBS Austin for its groundbreaking collaboration with El Concilio de East Austin on National Voter Registration Day, which this year coincided with Diez y Seis de Septiembre—a day of independence and pride for Mexican-Americans.

The day began with a National Voter Registration Day Breakfast at Taqueria Chapala, featuring Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar Celia Israel as a guest speaker. Community organizer Gavino Fernández Jr. and El Concilio led the event, which drew attention to civic participation while honoring cultural tradition.

At the breakfast, first-time voters experienced augzoo’s immersive AR Voter Education Channel, which simulates the Travis County voting machine, guides users through polling questions in English and Spanish, and now—through a new hyperlink-enabled AR feature—allows users to immediately register to vote online.

“This is the first time that AR has been used not only to educate first-time voters, but also to take them directly to register,” said Michael Mares Mendoza, Founder of augzoo®, in his interview with CBS Austin.

By merging civic participation with cultural celebration, this project demonstrates how immersive technology can strengthen democracy, empower communities, and ensure everyone eligible has the tools and confidence to vote.
